Pregnancy massage is specifically adapted massage designed to promote the well-being of expectant mothers in a relaxing and safe environment. The main differences to a standard massage are the positioning and supporting of the body during treatment, adapting the pressure and avoiding lower limbs. You will be made comfortable with cushions and pillows so that you can completely relax in a position suitable for your pregnancy.
Pregnancy massage can be enormously beneficial pre- and post-delivery, offering emotional support and a wide range of physical benefits too, such as relief of muscular aches and pains, reduced swelling in the arms and legs (post-natal massage), improved circulation to maintain optimum health, reduced anxiety, stress and depression, regulation of hormones, and improved sleep through promotion of relaxation.
As with all our massage therapies, pregnancy massage is not suitable for everyone, and certain medical conditions may prevent the use of this treatment or may require your GP or consultant obstetrician’s consent. A full consultation is carried out prior to any of our massage treatments to ensure that pregnancy massage is suitable for you.
As a general guide, the following conditions will require the permission of your GP or consultant obstetrician before we can give you a pregnancy massage, very high or very low blood pressure; placental disturbances for example placenta previa;or a history of pre-eclampsia (massage not suitable). Please feel free to call or email us if you would like to check your suitability before your treatment.
